CREAM CHEESE SPIRALS

Easy, delicious and fun to make, these spiral treats are made with a cream cheese and chocolate chips. Cream Cheese Spirals 

Serving: 32

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold, cubed

8 oz cream cheese, cubed (1 package)

2 teaspoon granulated sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

1 egg white & splash of milk (for glazing)

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

FILLING

1 cup miniature chocolate chips or finely chopped chocolate    OR

1 cup walnut or pecans /finely chopped

½ cup light brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

 

Cream Cheese Spirals

With an electric mixer, cream together cream cheese, pure vanilla extract and sugar until soft. Sift over the flour and mix to form a dough. Gather into a ball and divide into halves.

Flatten each piece, wrap in waxed paper and chill for at least 30 minutes.

Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat to 375°F. Grease two 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

Meanwhile, prepare the filling -(chocolate chips) OR (mix together the chopped walnuts or pecans, light brown sugar and cinnamon.

Roll out each half of dough thinly into a circle about 11-inches in diameter. Trim the edges with a knife using a dinner plate as a guide.

Brush the surface with the egg white glaze and sprinkle the dough evenly with half the filling. Spread the filling in a thin layer evenly over the surface of the dough. Make sure it goes right up to the edge of the dough.

Cut the dough using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, into quarters and each quarter into four sections, to form 16 triangles.

Starting from the base of the triangles, roll up to form spirals.

Place on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them evenly apart and brush with the remaining glaze. Sprinkle with granulates sugar. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden. Transfer to a wire rack, cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Bake the second tray of cookies.

Serve and Enjoy!
